Make Room Designer Spotlight: Mike Smith with Aimee Lagos and Christiana Coop
American Craft Show in St. Paul
What are the names of your design firms? Forage Modern Workshop and Hygge & West
What's your favorite design tip?
Mike Smith: Difficult as it may be, strive not to let trend influence your design.
Aimee Lagos and Christiana Coop: Adding pattern is essential. Start with a wallpaper you love, and let that dictate the rest of the space.
What decade did you select and why?
We selected the '10s because current design mixes styles and eras, blending vintage and new. The notion of creating one’s own personal style without strict adherence to trends defines design in this decade. We love this direction and think that it best complements our wallpaper patterns.
What is your vision for the space?
Our vision is a cozy-yet-stylish sitting area, perfect for reading and relaxing with a cup of tea.
What attracted you to the craft objects you’re featuring in your vignette?
We admired the craftsmanship and unique design. While modern, the shapes, textures, and colors of the pieces still read very warm and inviting.
What ACC show artists' pieces are you featuring? Elliot Stith (top left), Barbara Prodaniuk (top right), Paul Eshelman (bottom)
