Giving Stock and Appreciated Securities

Giving stock held more than 12 months may offer a two-fold tax savings. First, you may avoid paying capital-gains tax on the increase in the value of your stock. In addition, you may receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of your gift. Subtracting the tax saving from what you originally paid for the stock can result in a gift that costs just pennies on the dollar. For more information, please consult your financial advisor.

Please give the following delivery information to your broker to make a gift to the American Craft Council:

  • Firm: Fidelity Investments
  • Account #: Z46-965960
  • DTC #: 0226
  • Federal ID: 13-1566058

It is important that you notify ACC when your request is completed.

If you have questions about how to make your gift, please contact ACC director of finance and administration Laura Lipshutz at 612-206-3117 or [email protected] or contact director of development Judy Hawkinson at 612-206-3125 or [email protected].

Planned Gifts via an Estate Plan or Retirement Account

The easiest form of planned giving is through a bequest or estate plan. Below islanguage you may give to your attorney or financial planner.

  • Residuary bequest is stated as a percentage (e.g. "_____% of my estate.")
  • Specific bequest is stated as a fixed dollar amount (e.g. "The sum of $________.")

It is often simpler to express your bequests as a percentage of your estate; in the event your estate changes in value, you may not have to update your will as often as your gifts will remain proportional to your estate.

We suggest the following language for a bequest gift to the American Craft Council:

"I give to the American Craft Council, EIN: #13-1566058, a Minneapolis, Minnesota nonprofit organization that is recognized tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code [a ____________ percent of my residuary estate] or [the sum of $_____] to be used for [its general purposes] or [endowment]."

Please discuss your wishes with your attorney and/or financial planner. If you choose to notify the American Craft Council of your estate plans, please call Judy Hawkinson at 612-206-3125 or email her at [email protected].

Please notify us of your planned gift intentions.
