A Japanese living in the U.S. for 22 years, Shinobu Habauchi creates original works using local clay and her ash glazes. Her pottery inspired by wabi-sabi: beauty found within imperfect or nonconventional forms, her grandmother: a master of tea ceremonies, her former teacher: a world-renowned floral designer. Traditional methods are used to create her work: the use of Japanese kick wheel, the wood firing, Japanese lacquer to fix broken ceramics. Every piece is made with incredible dedication.
