My work is one of function, less of concept. I want my pieces to be used everyday and I want those pieces to not only be enjoyed but to provide a stimulus for renewed thoughtfulness and awareness of our everyday actions when using them. I want the physical, creative and emotional energy I have put into making the pieces to be transferred through the users everyday visual, haptic and kinetic experience of using them. A third generation woodworker I have been designing and making furniture and accessories since 1976, primarily out of wood, but also other materials where I think their use might be appropriate and exciting; materials such as brass, steel, copper, aluminum, ceramic, paper, linoleum, concrete. Though I work at a variety of scales, I find that the successful design of furniture and the everyday things we use provides the most challenges — and the most rewards—and possibly serves the most people.
