Join Northern Clay Center to celebrate the opening of their exhibitions "Triaxial Blends" and "It's Still Political: Gender, Sexuality, and Queerness in Contemporary Ceramics."

A triaxial blend is a method of testing glaze ratios to develop new surfaces. Angelica Pozo, curator of the exhibition, will parallel this concept, bringing three pairs of established ceramic sculptors together in collaboration. The artist pairs—Susan Beiner and Christine Golden, Kristen Cliffel and Angelica Pozo, and Syd Carpenter and Sana Musasama—will mine each other’s influences, studio habits, and processes to produce at least one significant work per pair, belonging to neither one nor the other.

Assumptions and misconceptions about gender and sexuality are all too common. Most of us are forced to participate in antiquated gender roles. Femininity and masculinity are often defined by societal expectations of what it means to be women and men. But gender expression and gender identity have nothing to do with sexuality. The artists in this exhibition address and actively engage in dialogue about these topics. Curated by Mac Star McCusker, this exhibition is a reboot—with a contemporary spin—of "Sexual Politics: Gender, Sexuality, and Queerness in Contemporary Ceramics," a provocative exhibition curated by Kelly Connole for Northern Clay Center in 2015.
