Lia Cook of Berkeley, California, combines weaving with painting, photography, video and digital technology to explore the sensuality and materiality of the woven image including the embodied memories of touch and cloth. She has a BA in Political Science and an MA from the College of Environmental Design, University of California, Berkeley.

Her works are in permanent collections worldwide at MOMA, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Minneapolis Institute of Art; Art Institute of Chicago; Cleveland Museum of Art; Smithsonian Museum, Washington DC; The National Collection, France; Museum Bellerive, Zurich; Foundation Toms Pauli, Lausanne, Switzerland; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; National Gallery of Australia; Zhejiang Art Museum; and the National Silk Museum, China.

“In her multi-media work combining weaving with painting, photography, video, and digital technology, Lia Cook has given new expression and potential to fiber, an ancient material that has been worked by humans for hundreds of centuries,” said ACC Awards Committee Member Tina Oldknow.
