We rolled out our first batch of timeline updates this week and also added a search feature to the timeline, so you can find your favorite events more quickly. There's a search box on the timeline home page, and links to the search at the bottom of each timeline. Of course, searching is not without its own troubles. Make sure to report any errors or glitches to timeline@craftcouncil.org. We want to make this timeline the best resource we can.
As a musician and wood guy, news that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service raided the Gibson guitar factory last week caught my eye. After all, I love wood, and things made out of wood, such as guitars, drums, pianos, and of course wood art and furniture.
Domenic Fiorello is another artist that's participating in the upcoming Regeneration: Fine Woodworkers Under 30 show. A recent graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, he's embraced both traditional and modern woodworking techniques, and the clean lines and subtle shapes of his work let excellent design shine.
Russell Gale's furniture combines modern and contemporary designs with fine woodworking. The result: interesting new furniture with a timeless quality. I was instantly drawn to his Garboard Strake sideboard. It's so woody, with a definite Japanese influence. But I'm not the only one who likes his work.
