Now that we’ve survived the great 2012 doomsday scare, it’s time to look toward 2013 with a fresh commitment to making and appreciating craft. Over the next 12 months, there are many awe-inspiring exhibitions set to go on view in museums, galleries, and schools across the country. Over the course of 30 years, faculty and students at four universities – Otis College of Art and Design, University of California, Davis, Chouinard Art Institute, and University of Washington – were critical in dramatically shifting American ceramics. This exhibition includes objects from the museum’s collection that show how West Coast artists freed ceramics from the purely functional and explored the abstract and figural in their work.
