When I saw Sarah Swell’s twinkling Flotsam & Jetsam pieces, I knew I was looking at the work of a fellow childhood beachcomber; in many of these pieces, as in the ring pictured above, one finds actual (conflict-free) diamonds in the rough, scattered among tiny bits of metal carefully formed into a not-too-perfect cluster. In the cuff bracelets and circle necklace, the artist uses oxidation to offset shiny sterling for a particularly gleaming, two-toned effect. Sarah Greenberg, the metalsmith/designer/owner behind Sarah Swell, derives inspiration from two coasts - the New England native now lives and works in Oakland, California - and this clearly influences much of her work. I also love Greenberg’s Fishbone pieces, wherein hand-hammered metal pieces are arranged to resemble glimmering, flowing structures in various shapes.

Can’t get enough craft? Neither can we. Heck Yes Craft is a series of visual blog posts with a simple mission: to show off amazing work. Come back on Fridays for more.
