It is truly autumn here in Minnesota: The daylight is disappearing, the brilliant red and orange leaves are already starting to fall, and there’s a biting briskness in the air. This is what we Midwesterners call “sweater weather.” Patty Benson, the artistic force behind Papaver Vert, seems to understand this concept even from her California studio. Her lovely felted housewares and jewelry have the same warm, tactile appeal of a cozy sweater, but their streamlined forms and bold color combinations are far from frumpy. I love the surprising appeal of softness and flexibility in forms we expect to be rigid, like vases and bowls, and her bracelets and necklaces are as warm visually as I suspect they are literally. Her pieces capture the cheer of chilly weather, and banish its bleakness.
Can't get enough craft? Neither can we. Heck Yes Craft is a series of visual blog posts with a simple mission: to show off amazing work. Come back on Fridays for more.
