A nod to the birth of the ACC's annual Atlanta Show...

The American Craft Council library is enjoying a generous donation of magazines from the Society for Contemporary Craft. The SCC offers exhibitions and hands-on art activities - and it gave us a large number of back issues of magazines from their collection.
We are always delighted to receive back issues of our very own publication, Craft Horizons, the previous name of American Craft. It has been in continuous publication since the 1940s; the name change occurred in 1979. The library and archive appreciates the additional copies! (On that note, if you have issues from the 40s and 50s you would like to donate, the library would love them.)
The SCC donated a large run of Woodshop News, "news for and about people who work with wood." The cover of the issue pictured is from 1996, yet it's ageless in its appeal. Many projects do withstand the test of time.
The topic of the pictured issue of The International Review of African American Art is "Toward Definition: An Examination of African American Craft Art." Articles are on the African American legacy in the visual arts, spiritualizing craft, quilts as communal emblems and personal icons, and more. This is a glossy, scholarly magazine.
The December 1996 issue of Bead & Button caught my eye - the cover article is on how to make fine canes of polymer clay and build them into mosaics. There's also an article on glass bead maker Tom Holland, as well as a good mix of project articles.
The SCC also gave the ACC library issues of Niche, Turning Point, Woodsmith, and more. If you can, please stop by the library and see these and the rest of our resources!
A weekly shout out to the printed word, From the Stacks highlights what's new and what's loved in the American Craft Council library.
