I like funky statement pieces as much as the next gal, but I can never resist handmade jewelry that showcases classic, elegant, simple shapes, rendered with just a bit of a contemporary twist. Naturally, I fell for Kendra Lawrence’s jewelry as soon as I laid eyes on it - symmetrical circles abound, in hand-formed hoops, intersecting rings, delicate disc and bowl shapes, and other lovingly crafted contours. The San Francisco–based artist draws from her metalsmith toolkit wisely, oxidizing and hammering just enough to let the shapes of her pieces really sing. And Lawrence’s statement pieces, which integrate Keshi pearls, don’t lose any of the harmonious ease of her less-adorned works. I particularly love her Axle necklace, with its industrial inclinations, and her Crystal Lariat necklace, which pairs two craggy crystals with a delicate, cascading silver chain.
Can’t get enough craft? Neither can we. Heck Yes Craft is a series of visual blog posts with a simple mission: to show off amazing work. Come back on Fridays for more.
