Byers lovingly captures the grooves, membranes, ridges, and curves of things found in nature.

Dolan Geiman’s rustic-yet-contemporary constructions would be equally at home in a hip urban loft or a traditional country house, a versatility that reflects the artist’s rural-urban bona fides: Geiman, who was brought up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, now lives and works in Chicago. Each piece is constructed using salvaged wood, reclaimed metals, and found objects (looking closely at the U.S. silhouettes in his American Souvenir collection, I spy a section of yardstick, a strip of a license plate, flattened and hammered baseball covers, and other ephemera). Geiman’s materials lend a persistently rustic influence, but the silhouettes that they fill are spare and modern, and refreshingly colorful. I love the small, taxidermy-inspired wall “trophy” pieces, featuring deer and other animals—fun, whimsical, and bright, they are urban Americana at its very best.
