The Council Booth, a staple of ACC craft fairs dating back to the 1960s, is a nucleus of information and activity that can still be found today at our shows in Baltimore, Atlanta, St. Paul and San Francisco. Centrally located and inhabited by ACC staff and volunteers, folks who seek out the Council Booth can find answers to a gamut of questions from "where's the restroom?" to "I'm looking for an artist whose last name begins with "Q" who makes [fill in the blank]?" to "Can you help me find my lost friend/earring/husband/wallet/etc?"

At the first annual ACC Winter Market, held February 17-20, 1977, at the Baltimore Civic Center, the Council Booth took on a very retro Rubik's Cube design. It was also staffed by some of the most influential employees in Council history, including Paul J. Smith from the Museum of Contemporary Crafts and Lois Moran, who would go on to become editor-in-chief of American Craft magazine for more than 25 years (see image above).

Looking back at photos from ACC show history, it is clear the Council Booth has gone through many incarnations over the years, and 2013 is no exception. For those of you attending our Baltimore show, February 22-24, please stop by and check out the many new and exciting activities going on at the ACC's central hub throughout the weekend, including a photo booth where you can have an image taken to create your own personal cover of American Craft magazine and an exhibit of rare and historic materials from the ACC archives. Looking for an artist whose name you don't know? Ask the librarian or other staff person at the Council Booth who will be happy to help find the answers you need.

Throwback Thursday is a weekly series highlighting visuals from the American Craft Council Library's Digital Collections Database. Check back on Thursdays for more.
