Virginia Fleck's plastic bag mandalas, such as liberty mandala, are the rage in Austin-they are everywhere from city hall to the Whole Foods headquarters- and reveal beauty in insigni- ficant waste. "There is a long tradition of art made from trash - Claes Oldenburg, Tim Noble and Sue Webster, even Marcel Duchamp," says Erin Williamson. "But rarely is art made from castoffs so seductive and meditative."

What will five artists create with what they discover at the New York Public Library? The institution joined with Design Sponge to find out. This film series follows glassblower John Pomp, printmaker Rebecca Kutys, pattern designer/illustrator Julia Rothman, typographer/illustrator Mike Perry and jeweler/ceramist Lorena Barrazueta as they dig through the stacks.
