This exhibition of artists’ representations of home is inspired by the Elmhurst Museum’s McCormick House, a mid-century modern home designed by architect Mies van der Rohe. It explores experiences, contents, memories, and realities of home today. Artist-in-residence Alberto Aguilar of Chicago presents a site-specific installation of “domestic monuments,” incorporating borrowed objects from area residents’ homes transformed into public sculptures. Also on view are recent works by artists Gabrielle Garland, Martin Hyers and William Mebane, Alyssa Miserendino, and Ann Toebbe, examining the lives embedded within a home and the trappings associated with personal space. A group of house-shaped sculptures by Don Baum serves as a prelude to the exhibition.
