California artist Velda Newman uses vivid colors and close detail to give the shells, flowers, fruit and other subject matter in her quilts a three-dimensional quality. One of Newman’s works, Hydrangea, was recognized as one of the top 100 quilts of the 20th century. Many of the works in this exhibition are on loan from the artist’s private collection.
