"Celebrating the Stars of Today and Tomorrow" is the theme of this festive weekend. During Spring Craft Weekend, the Alliance will present Master of the Medium awards to distinguished craft artists:
* Adrian Saxe, Ceramics
* Mary Giles, Fiber
* Paul Stankard, Glass
* Bruce Metcalf, Metal
* William Hunter, Wood
The weekend of activities offers programs for collectors and artists. The Southern Maryland BBQ and Stars of Tomorrow art exhibition and sale at the Washington Glass School, visits to private craft art collections, and a remarkable glass fashion show and festive dinner held at the Military Women’s Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, all are set for April 5.
On April 6, there will be a free panel discussion on the Stars of Today and Tomorrow at the Grand Salon of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery. At a gala dinner and auction that evening, Paul and Elmirina Parkman, founders of the JRA ,will be awarded the One-of-a-Kind award for outstanding service to the James Renwick Alliance, the Renwick Gallery, studio glass artists, and the entire craft community.
Master of the Medium awards will be presented on April 7 at a brunch held at the St. Regis Hotel.
Proceeds from the activities of the weekend provide operating funds for the James Renwick Alliance and the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery in support of its educational programs, research fellowships, exhibitions, and acquisitions for the permanent collection.
The JRA, a national nonprofit arts organization, is an alliance of prominent artists, collectors, galleries and supporters of the arts which promotes public knowledge and appreciation of American craft.
