ACC Reads with Celeste Sollod
The response from the American Craft Council staff, exhibiting artists, and show attendees to last year’s book club in Baltimore was so positive, we knew there had to be a sequel. Please join Baltimore Bibliophile Celeste Sollod as part of ACC Reads.
The mountains of North Carolina are rich in natural clay deposits, which artisans from the early Cherokee to present day potters have used to create ordinary household items – pots, jugs, plates, cups – that are also works of art. Sollod and guest panelists will discuss Red Brick, Black Mountain, White Clay, the history of author Christopher Benfey’s family, and the various roles they played in the craft of the region. Benfey candidly examines his own history to explore how forces natural and man-made come together to create art, an artistic movement, a family, and a community. Come address thought-provoking questions about place, ingenuity, and the role of the artist in the creation of craft while examining images of the everyday works that inspired Benfey and his family.
